Precision bearing seminar is a learning forum for engineers and a real investment for industry |

September 23, 2003 By: Mark Harris Precision bearing seminar is a learning forum for engineers and a real investment for industryThe success of Barden's first two UK bearing seminars, with upwards of 30 engineers attending on each occasion, has resulted in an expansion of the programme to include an additional 2-day seminar; "Precision Bearing Design and Integration" at the New Continental Hotel in Plymouth on Wednesday October 3rd and Thursday October 4th. The event is an ideal learning forum for engineers in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, machine tools and other areas of precision engineering. Attendance is free, and Barden covers the cost of hotel accommodation, meals and activities during the seminar. The success of the seminars is due in no small measure to the nature of the subject matter, which deals with the latest in precision rolling bearing technology and translates that technology firmly into the context of the latest engineering designs. This trend is continued with the October 2001 seminar, the provisional programme containing an extensive list of papers covering topics on a wide range of subjects including: 1. Introduction to Precision Bearings. 2. Materials, including steels, polymers & ceramics. 3. Cages, Closures and Sealing. 4. Lubrication. 5. Internal Design. 6. Bearing Dynamic Analysis. 7. "Beyond ABEC" Quality Standards. 8. Bearing Handling & Fitting. 9. Functional Testing & Vibration Analysis. 10. Design Evolution. In addition to the above, the seminar includes a case study, which offers worked examples on topics such as bearing selection, dynamic analysis and design evolution. This paper is the culmination of the seminar and, like the other topics, will be presented by Barden's team of specialist project and development engineers. "I am certain that engineers taking time out to attend our latest seminar will view the time spent as a real investment for their companies", commented Brian Williams, the event organiser. "The comments we have received from past attendees have been overwhelmingly positive, which means that we are on the right track in providing the essential information about bearing technology that today's engineers require in order to improve their methods of production. The benefits of attending the seminar are considerable, and the only investment required to achieve them is just a few hours out of the office, which must be judged as a worthy return on any balance sheet".
