Glacier Garlock Bearings acquires Saver Mega-Life® line

Glacier Garlock Bearings (GGB), the world’s leading producer of pre-lubricated and self-lubricating plain bearings, has acquired the assets of Saver North America, a South Bend, Ind.-based producer of self-lubricating composite bearings.

“We are extremely excited about the potential of this acquisition to accelerate the growth of our business,” said Bernd Fischer, vice president and general manager of GGB Americas. “The addition of the Saver manufacturing equipment and product line will enable us to continue to reduce our costs and expand our ability to offer additional design solutions to customers in existing and potential markets.”

Saver N.A. produces the Mega-Life® line of filament-wound composite bearings similar to GGB’s Gar-Max offerings. Mega-Life bearings are constructed of a self-lubricating inner surface backed with a high-strength, fiber-reinforced thermal set composite. Their properties include low wear, low friction, high strength, non-conductivity and high corrosion resistance, making them viable replacements for metal bearings in many applications. Today composites bearings are used extensively by manufactures of heavy industrial equipment, pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders, valves and actuators.

GGB will relocate the equipment for manufacturing these bearings from Saver’s South Bend facility to its own filament-wound bearing plant in Thorofare, N.J.

Neither GGB nor Saver N.A. anticipate any disruption in the supply, service or pricing of Mega-Life bearings.
