September 27, 2003 By: Mark Harris Presentation of acceditation certificate to makers of aerospace bearingsTimken Aerospace in Wolverhampton, a world leader in the design, development and production of aerospace bearings, has been formally recognised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) for its commitment to the training and development of professional engineers. Timken Aerospace's engineering graduates can now follow a four-year monitored professional development scheme (MPDS), accredited by the IMechE, that will provide them with the training that helps to cement the foundations for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. Martyn Jones, Timken's Plant Manager, said, “The accreditation of the company’s training scheme underlines Timken Aerospace’s recognition of the vital contribution made by engineers to the company’s future prosperity. The MPD scheme ensures that our engineers become well rounded individuals who can deal with a variety of complex issues”. Steven Gasser, IMechE Regional Manager, said, “Timken Aerospace and the IMechE have a very productive working relationship, the accreditation of their training scheme indicates the importance that the organisation places on the development of young engineers.” The IMechE underpins industry with a supply of high quality graduates from accredited universities. Graduate engineers actively seek organisations such as Timken Aerospace, which facilitate an MPD scheme, as the programme puts the building blocks in place that will eventually lead to chartered status. The specialist market sectors in which Timken operates demand the highest level of professionalism, and CEng status indicates the individual’s commitment and capability for their role. About
